Pina Bausch Foundation: Ensembles
9 – 20 May 2019
Centre for Contemporary Art DOX

A video installation about the work of Pina Bausch and her company Tanztheater Wuppertal.

Pina Bausch (1940 – 2009) is one of the most influential choreographers of the 20th century. Together with her company Tanztheater Wuppertal she has created 46 pieces in more than 36 years, many of which are still performed in many countries around the world. The Pina Bausch Foundation carries her artistic legacy into the future. In 2016, they developed the exhibition “Pina Bausch and the Tanztheater” in Gropius Bau, Berlin.

Ensembles, composition of video projections and music, was created by Ismaël Dia and Pina Bausch’s long-time work companion Matthias Burkert. Video recordings had been an essential part of Pina Bausch’s working process since the very beginning. Rolf Borzik, Herbert Rach, Detlef Erler, Jérôme Cassou, Grigori Chakov and others have been recording her work.

This installation is a journey through time, emergence, evolution, change and rejuvenation – it is one way out of many to look at artistic work of this important choreographer.
