The festival history

Exclusive dramaturgy and great performance of the Czech dance film production.

The biennial Dance Film Festival Prague has been operating since 2009 as a platform for the presentation, sharing, production and education in the field of dance for camera. The festival’s dramaturgy focuses on so-called dance for camera films, i.e. films whose cinematic language is based on the image and movement of the human body; it also presents documentaries about dance and innovative recordings of stage dance works.

In 2019, the festival has become an international competition and awards the Main Prize and the Audience Award as part of its programme. The 2019 competition winners are Walls of Limerick, directed by Arturo Bandinelli, choreographed by Máire Dee and Kathryn Cooley. In 2021, the international jury awarded the Czech dance film Delimitation by Tereza Vejvodová and Markéta Jandová.

The Intermezza Festival is organised by the festival at yearly intervals, focusing on educational and popularisation projects, building an artistic and audience community and spreading awareness of the field of dance for camera films. From 2020, it will set up a dedicated EDU web platform on its website.
